Great Missenden… A great place to live and work

The village of Great Missenden centres around an attractive High Street populated by lovely historic buildings, independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, making it attractive to visitors and a lively environment in which to live and work.


The renowned author Roald Dalh lived here for 36 years and the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, located in the High Street, celebrates his life and work and attracts thousands of visitors each year.



It’s a delightful village with a strong, welcoming community and the Great Missenden Village Association strives to keep it that way. So why not join us and become a member. You’ll receive regular news and updates on all the issues affecting the village and your subscription will contribute towards its upkeep.

The GMVA was formed in 2008 to protect, enhance and champion our village.

It provides a voice for residents and businesses living and working in the village, providing them with the opportunity to actively affect decisions and bring about the changes and improvement they’d like to see.


The Great Missenden Village Association is run by the GMVA Committee who meet monthly to discuss all the issues affecting the village: everything from the installation of planters and renewing village signs to liaising with the County Council, HS2, businesses and developers - anything and everything that affects the quality of life in Great Missenden.

The river is flowing!

The River is flowing! The River Misbourne is a winterbourne, a chalk stream that only flows in winter. This year it started to flow at the end of February. You can see it at Boug’s Meadow (adjacent to the Link Road car park) and at Abbey Park.
